Attempted Robbery x2

Sent on 11/20/2014 5:02:28 PM

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Robbery Unit are investigating two possibly related attempted robberies. The first incident occurred on November 8, 2014, at approximately 8:30 PM. A 70-year-old woman was at the Hampton Inn at 5950 N. Oracle Road with a group of people. The suspect began tugging at her purse in an attempt to steal it. In the struggle, the woman fell to the ground and suffered minor cuts and bruises. Another woman (56) from within the group reacted quickly and struck the suspect in the face and head. He fled from the scene and left in a white pick-up truck without taking the purse. He was described as a Caucasian male, 50 to 60 years old with graying hair, 6’00” tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, a dark baseball cap and glasses. The second incident, possibly involving the same suspect, occurred almost exactly 24 hours later at the Coxco store located at 5960 N. Oracle Road. On November 9, 2014, at approximately 8:45 PM, the suspect entered the store. When approaching the counter, he placed a pack of gum on the counter along with a dollar bill. As the clerk opened the cash drawer, the suspect reached over and attempted to take money from the register. The clerk managed to push the man away, who then began to hit the clerk. In the struggle, the suspect’s cap came off. He tried one more time to reach for money in the register, but then fled on foot from the store in a northbound direction. The suspect was described as a Caucasian male, 50 to 60 years old with graying hair (possibly balding), 6’1” tall and a skinny build. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded zip up sweat shirt and a grey baseball cap. Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect and/or his whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
