School plays a critical role in a child’s development, and school supplies are important tools for success. As members of this community, Sheriff’s Department employees decided to help children and their families who might have a difficult time purchasing school supplies. Last year, we were able to give away one thousand backpacks to local children. Thanks to generous donations from several community partners, the event is a reality again this year. Deputies, civilians, and various community volunteers have stuffed two thousand backpacks with essential school supplies. The backpacks will be given away (while supplies last) for free to kids in need during our Badges and Backpacks Back to School Event. Children must be present to receive a backpack. Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Tucson Convention Center – Exhibit Hall A (260 S Church Ave). Parking is free on the west side, in lot B. Sheriff Mark D. Napier, along with School Resource Officers, the Pima Regional Bomb Squad, Motors, Canine Unit, McGruff, and several community partners will be at the event. Our Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers will also be there to provide child fingerprinting services. We would like to thank our sponsors, without which this event would not be possible: My 92.9 Cares for Kids, Tucson Electric Power, Comcast NBC Universal, Walmart, PLS, and Eegee’s.
