Today, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Foothill District deputies responded to the 1600 block of West Gleaming Moon Lane for a report of a strong arm robbery. As deputies were responding, they learned a man pushed a child to the ground then stole the child’s bicycle. Deputies quickly located the suspect’s vehicle near Interstate 10 and El Camino Del Cerro and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled into a desert area near the Santa Cruz wash, where a female driver and male passenger ran from the vehicle. The male suspect pointed a handgun at deputies and fired an unknown number of shots. A deputy fired at least one shot in response. With the assistance of our Air Unit, K9 Unit, the Marana Police Department, and the Tucson Police Department, the suspects were quickly apprehended without further incident. It is believed these suspects are connected to other incidents both within the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction and the Marana Police Department’s jurisdiction. Our Robbery/Assault Unit is working closely with Marana Police Department detectives to conduct a thorough investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
