This morning, just before 7:00 a.m., deputies responded to a residence in the 11000 block of West Massingale Road for a domestic dispute. Deputies learned the victim was the suspect’s mother and there was possibly a weapon involved. When deputies arrived on scene, they saw the suspect with a handgun before he barricaded himself inside the residence. The Pima Regional SWAT Team responded and took over the situation. They locked down the area and set up containment on the residence, at which time negotiators began establishing communications with the suspect. SWAT negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully for over five hours, but the suspect refused to surrender. He came out of the residence several times with a gun in his hand. Then, just after 2:30 p.m., the suspect emerged from the residence with two guns, one in each hand. He refused multiple commands to drop the weapons before a SWAT deputy shot him. SWAT Tactical Medical personnel rendered aid to the suspect until he was transported to Banner University Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital. The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Luis David Flores. This investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
