On July 1, 2017, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint. The Sheriff’s Department is dedicated to its mission of taking impaired drivers off the roadway and making it safer for the citizens of Pima County. They will continue their efforts to eliminate impaired driving in Pima County. Remember “buzzed” driving is impaired driving. If you are stopped you may: • Lose your license • Have your vehicle impounded • Pay excessive attorney’s fees • Be fined upon conviction • Be required to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle (at your cost) • Spend time in jail • End up with a criminal record Make a plan BEFORE going out and consuming alcohol. Here are a few safety tips: Prior to drinking designate a non-drinking driver Have a friend drop you off where you will be drinking. This forces you to use another avenue home. Preplan your ride home. Get a ride from a sober driver, or use a service like, Uber, Lift, or a taxicab. If you are hosting a party, remind guests to plan ahead and designate a sober driver or make plans to stay the night. Operational funding and equipment were made available through grants awarded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
