The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint on December 17, 2016. The mission of DUI Checkpoints is to take impaired drivers off the roadway. The Sheriff’s Department is committed to working relentlessly in making our community safer. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department offers the following tips for a safe and healthy holiday season: • Plan ahead. Utilize other options such as UBER, a cab, a friend, or family member as a ride from a party where you will be drinking. • You can dial #TAXI from anywhere in the United States or Canada and be connected with the closest taxi cab company to where you are. They will come and pick you up and get you home safely. Put a note with your home address and some cash in your pocket and just hand it to the taxi cab driver when they pick you up. • Become a designated driver, or use a designated driver. Don’t drink and drive and don’t let friends do it either. Your ability to operate a motor vehicle can be compromised even if your blood alcohol content is below the legal limit. • Become an advocate of breath alcohol testing. Breathalyzers are one way to curb irresponsible drivers from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. Personal breathalyzers are small enough to fit in a purse or pants pocket. Larger, coin operated vending machine models may also be available at some bars. • Utilize services found on the Internet that offer ways to get you home safely. Most are low cost to you and will get your vehicle home as well. Operational funding and equipment were made available through grants awarded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
