On September 6, 2013, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies became aware that the Tucson Police Department was attempting to locate a vehicle that had evaded them. The Sheriff’s Department fixed wing aircraft, Survey 2, was able to locate the vehicle. The Tactical Flight Deputy provided information to ground units about the location of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled into the desert near Ajo Way and Marstellar Road. The deputies utilized a tire deflation device to attempt to stop the vehicle. The device successfully flattened all four tires but the suspect vehicle was able to continue driving into the desert. A short time later when the vehicle stopped, deputies were able to use verbal commands to get all five occupants out of the vehicle. The occupants were detained without further incident. The driver of the vehicle, Anthony Medina, was charged with: • 4 counts of felony Endangerment, • Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, • DUI, • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and • Driving on a Suspended License.
