On August 30, 2015, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Foothills District deputies responded to Orange Grove Road and Desert Palms Drive in reference to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. When deputies arrived, they learned the motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Orange Grove Road when it collided with a passenger car that failed to yield exiting the Desert Palms Apartments. The passenger car continued across Orange Grove Road and collided with a guard rail on the north side of the road. A westbound SUV swerved to avoid the car and collided with the motorcyclist who was on the ground. Robin Rawlings, the 46-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene before she could be transported to the hospital. The Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit responded to investigate the incident. Their investigation revealed the driver of the first car to collide with the motorcycle, identified as 17-year-old Alyssa Franks was driving under the influence. She was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked on one count each of Manslaughter and Driving Under the Influence.
