The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has a few helpful tips to help everyone bring in the New Year safely. When the clock strikes twelve: • Do not fire weapons into the air. Gravity will draw the bullet back down at deadly speeds. Not only is it dangerous, it is also illegal. Never shoot within or into the limits of a city. You must be at least one mile from any residential area. • Know the law concerning fireworks in your area. The only permissible consumer fireworks allowed in Pima County are ground and handheld sparkling devices such as; cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, illuminating torches, wheels, ground spinners, flitter sparklers, toy smoke devices, multiple tube fireworks devices and pyrotechnical articles. • Finally, if you plan to celebrate the New Year with alcohol, think before you drink. Have a designated driver, plan to stay the night where you are, or call a taxi. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to wish everyone a very safe and Happy New Year.
