On December 30, 2012, at approximately 12:45 p.m., deputies with the Sheriff’s Foothills District responded to Flowing Wells Junior High School. A 9-1-1 caller reported individuals on the roof of the school and provided a description. Upon arrival, deputies surveyed the school grounds and observed two male juveniles matching the description near a chain link fence of the school. They ran off, but were located and detained shortly thereafter. Outside a gate in the fence, deputies found a fire extinguisher, a generator on a wheeled cart and two air tanks. In addition to these items, damage to some of the gates in the chain link fence was noted as well. The principal of the school responded and provided further access to the interior of the school’s buildings. Inside the pool house, they found that a water faucet had been turned on flooding a storage room. Deputies also noted in their reports that it appeared a fire extinguisher had been set off inside the room. Next, the roof of the pool house was examined as deputies noted a large hole. On top of the building, they noted two exhaust fans of the pool house had apparently been forcefully removed leaving the holes in the roof. A yellow rope was found tied to a nearby pole, leading to the conclusion that someone had gained access to the interior that way. Evidence found at the scene and observations made by responding deputies tied the detained juvenile suspects to the incident. They were brought to the Sheriff’s Administration Building for further questioning and later released into the custody of their mother. Both juveniles (13 and 14 years of age) were charged with Third Degree Burglary and Aggravated Criminal Damage. The investigation continues.
