Yesterday, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Rincon District deputies responded to the Wells Fargo bank located at 6920 East Sunrise Drive for a report of a robbery. When deputies arrived, they learned a man, armed with a handgun, entered the bank demanding money. Bank employees complied with the demands and provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of cash. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and saw him leave in a black Jeep Cherokee. Deputies learned the suspect was wearing a disguise to include a safety vest, surgical mask, and wig. Deputies were in the area quickly and found a black Jeep Cherokee, matching the description provided, bearing a license plate that returned to a stolen vehicle. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle; however, it fled and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuing deputies were led to the area of Country Club Road and Mabel Street where two suspects ran from the vehicle. A search of the area began, with the assistance of our K9 Unit and the Tucson Police Department. Through the help of the community, and the assistance of the Tucson Police Department, deputies were able to locate and arrest 49-year-old Jason Wells in connection to the armed robbery. Mr. Wells was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, unlawful use of means of transportation, and unlawful flight from law enforcement. Detectives are still investigating the identity of the second suspect. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call 9-1-1.
