The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded two (2) grants totaling $53,476.00 from the DUI Abatement Council. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has a strong reputation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the DUI Abatement Council based upon a history of appropriately utilizing funds awarded within the grant guidelines. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has conducted many successful traffic safety operations with funding from the DUI Abatement Council, and will continue DUI enforcement efforts, including high intensity saturation patrols and DUI sobriety checkpoints. A portion of this grant will allow the Sheriff’s Department to implement a “Designated Driver Program” providing the sober designated driver an opportunity to receive a $25.00 gas card. The sober driver steers clear of alcohol for the evening and provides safe transportation to and from home…..which means they have zero alcohol. The gift cards will be presented randomly during saturation patrols and DUI sobriety checkpoints. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the DUI Abatement Council for supporting our mission to take impaired drivers off our roadways.
