On Thursday, August 16, 2012, the Pima County Sheriff's Department Traffic Unit took part in a multi-agency commercial vehicle enforcement project involving several local agencies. Besides the Pima County Sheriff's Department, officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Oro Valley Police Department and deputies from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department cooperated in this effort to ensure the safety on our roadways. The focused enforcement had an emphasis on commercial truck traffic on Interstate 10 west of Tucson. Over the course of eight hours, a total of 47 commercial vehicles were stopped and inspected. Six of these vehicles were placed out of service due to mechanical and driver related violations. Two of these trucks were carrying hazardous materials. 47 safety violations were identified during the inspection process.
