On March 29, 2013, at approximately 10:45 p.m., deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Rincon District responded to a single vehicle collision near Bear Canyon Road and Snyder Road. Upon arrival, they found a Ford Mustang had crashed into a power pole on Bear Canyon Road, just south of Snyder Road. As a result of the impact, the vehicle had snapped the power pole near the base; however, the cables held the utility post in place. The driver of the vehicle was seen walking away from the scene by an area resident, but he had not been located at the time this release was published. As the unstable pole created a safety hazard, Bear Canyon Road was shut down to all traffic in both directions. A repair crew with Tucson Electric Power (TEP) responded to the scene and the work is expected to last into the morning hours. Initially, there was no power disruption to residences in the area. The cause for the crash is unknown at this time. The investigation is ongoing and the public is asked to avoid the area.
