Shooting on the Southwest Side

On June 19, 2013, deputies with the San Xavier District responded to the 3000 block of West Wyoming Street reference a shots fired call. While en route, deputies received information that a detective working an unrelated incident, observed a vehicle drive off the road and hit a tree. As the detective approached the vehicle, he discovered a male in the driver’s seat. The driver was asked if he was ok and he advised that he had been shot. Paramedics were requested and deputies rendered first aid. The driver was ultimately transported to University of Arizona Medical Center (UAMC) with life threatening injuries. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Robbery Assault Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. It was confirmed that the vehicle involved in the collision, was associated with the original shots fired call. Detectives also confirmed that a man identified as 26 year-old Anthony Acuna was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The man who was transported to the hospital is still in critical condition at UAMC.
