On April 20, 2015, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Foothills District deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the 4500 block of North La Cholla Boulevard. When deputies arrived, they learned the suspect left the residence on foot, armed with a reported handgun under his shirt. Due to the incident location's proximity to Homer Davis Elementary School, the facility was placed on lockdown. Deputies eventually made contact with the suspect who displayed what appeared to be a handgun wrapped in the t-shirt. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Carlos Castro, never pointed the weapon at the deputies but he did put the weapon under his chin threatening to harm himself. The deputies eventually took Mr. Castro into custody at 11:40 a.m. The deputies were surprised to learn the weapon was actually two pocket knives held to look like a pistol. Prior to being transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, Mr. Castro asked the deputies why they didn’t shoot him. Mr. Castro was booked on one count of Domestic Violence Assault and Disorderly Conduct.
