Chief Deputy Chris Nanos advises on July 30, 2014, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Rincon District deputies responded to an unknown problem in the 10800 block of South Alley Mountain Drive. While en route, deputies were advised a 17-year-old male had a handgun pointed to his head and approximately three people were trying to talk him into putting the weapon down. When deputies arrived, they located the male standing in a drainage ditch between two homes. Deputies moved the people attempting to talk to the male to a safe location, evacuated the residents of two homes, and contained the area, preventing him from moving throughout the neighborhood with the weapon. When the male refused to comply with the deputies’ request to put the weapon down, the Pima Regional SWAT Team was requested. When the SWAT Team arrived, they took over the containment of the male and the SWAT Negotiators began communicating with him. At approximately 10:20 p.m., SWAT Negotiators were able to talk the 17-year-old male into putting the weapon down. He was taken into custody unharmed and transported to a hospital for treatment.
