On Saturday, July 29, 2017, just after 1:00 p.m., deputies responded to the 2900 block of East Blackbrush Road for a report of a robbery. Deputies quickly learned that a male suspect had approached a group of workers on the property and demanded they give him their vehicle while pointing a handgun at them. The suspect took off with the vehicle and no one was harmed. Upon arrival to investigate the robbery, a passerby approached deputies to report they had discovered a deceased male just off the roadway on South Country Club Road and East Blackbrush Road. Deputies were led to where the body was located and immediately noticed the deceased male had obvious signs of trauma. At approximately 1:25 p.m., the Tucson Police Department received a call from the male believed to be the suspect from the robbery on Blackbrush. He was calling from a convenience store in the area of East 29th Street and South Craycroft Road. The Tucson Police Department was aware of our investigation and notified us they were speaking with someone potentially involved. Homicide and Night Squad detectives responded to the incident and have taken over the investigation. The two incidents have been determined to be connected; however, detectives are still investigating the role of the robbery suspect in the homicide. This investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
