On Friday, May 29, 2015, the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Unit received an Assist Other Agency request from Border Patrol’s BORSTAR Unit. The request was in reference to a migrant, who had been reported missing by his brother and was last seen on the far west side of Tucson south of Three Points. At approximately 1:00 PM, a Search & Rescue Deputy was activated and connected with BORSTAR to assist in their search and planning efforts. The deputy assisted until late Friday. The search operation was suspended some time after 9:00 PM. This morning, at approximately 7:15 AM, the Search & Rescue Deputy responded to the search area off Arizona State Highway 286. Approximately two miles into his drive on a dirt road towards the designated search area, he found the missing man lying next to the road. He was conscious and breathing, but severely dehydrated. BORSTAR provided initial medical treatment to stabilize the patient. He was later transported to a local hospital for further care and recovery. Volunteers with the Coalición de Derechos Humanos were in the area as well.
