On August 26, 2014, at approximately 7:41 AM, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a situation involving a 2-year-old child who was found lying in a driveway with a bleeding head injury. The initial notification was received from the Rural Metro Fire Department. Deputies with the San Xavier District responded to the 3300 block of East Behan Street. Upon their arrival, the responding ambulance had already rushed the child to a local trauma center. The boy remains there in critical condition. Multiple investigative units with the Sheriff’s Department sent their detectives to the scene, to include the Sheriff’s Traffic, Homicide and Crimes Against Children Units. This multidisciplinary response was chosen to provide the investigation with the best and broadest possible expertise. All this in an effort to determine what caused the injuries the child sustained. The investigation is ongoing.
