Update II: Body Found in Desert Near Trico Road and Avra Valley Road

Chief Deputy Chris Nanos advises the female found in the desert area near Trico Road and Avra Valley Road on June 6, 2014, has been identified as 13-year-old Maribel Victoria Gonzales from Tucson. Maribel’s family last saw her at approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 3, 2014 and she was reported as a runaway to another local law enforcement agency on June 4, 2014. The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit continues to investigate this incident and her death is still considered suspicious. The cause of death is pending the completion of a forensic examination. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. __________________________________________________ June 11, 2014 Chief Deputy Chris Nanos advises the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the deceased female found in the desert, near Trico Road and Avra Valley Road on June 6, 2014. The victim is described as: • Adult female • Unknown ethnicity, appears white • 5’00” tall, 90-100 pounds • Brown hair • Tattoo under left collar bone, “butterfly in flight” • Necklace with an anchor pendant and clear stones Anyone with information regarding the identity of the victim is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. __________________________________________________ June 6, 2014 Chief Deputy Chris Nanos advises on June 6, 2014, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Tucson Mountain District deputies responded to a suspicious activity call on Trico Road approximately a half mile south of Avra Valley Road. When deputies arrived, they were directed to a dead body, in stages of decomposition, on the east side of the road. The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit responded and took over the investigation. During the course of their investigation, they determined the decedent to be a female. They were unable to determine the identity or ethnicity at the scene. The investigation continues. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
