On April 21, 2013, at 7:26 a.m. deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department San Xavier District responded to a single vehicle traffic collision at Mission Road and Irvington Road. The sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 71-year-old Minnie Richardson. When they arrived on scene, deputies found the passenger car had gone through a guardrail on Irvington Road just west of Mission Road. The female was transported from the scene by ambulance in critical condition. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded to investigate. They learned that an off-duty parademic had been following the passenger car and observed it driving through two red lights at Midvale Park Road and Mission Road. The car then hit and bounced off the northern curb, ran over a bus stop sign and eventually hit and broke through a guardrail. The vehicle was travelling at a very low speed of approximately 10 to 15 MPH. It is presumed the crash occurred due to medical issues. No obvious signs of alcohol related impairment were noted. Later that day, the Sheriff’s Department was notified by St. Mary’s Hospital that Ms. Richardson had passed away. The investigation continues.
